Histoire de Waterville/The History of Waterville
Abstract
The Eastern Townships village of Waterville was first settled by American and British immigrants in the early nineteenth century. Industrial development began in 1810 with the construction of a sawmill by Compton Township businessman Joseph Pennoyer, who collected seven tons of hemp at his sawmill for the manufacture of British ship cords. The author covers the history of the village from 1876 to 1976.
