Abstract |
Surveys the English press and pamphlet literature on Canadian issues from the Conquest to the Quebec Act. Public commentators paid attention to trade, emigration, social news, and Canada's role in the British Empire. All were not happy with the polyglot empire after the Seven Years War. One commentator wrote: "The conquest of Canada everybody now sees was like the Irishman's prize, gaining a loss."
