Abstract
The author outlines an ethnographic study of registered dog breeding within the Montreal area. Dog competitions in Montreal began in 1917 with the creation of the Ladies Kennel Club of Montreal, a female-only organization until 1964 when men were permitted to join and the club changed its name to the United Kennel Club.
