Abstract |
In the period between 1801 and 1845, anglophones comprised 25 percent of the province’s population but made up 75.6 percent of the inmates at the Montreal Lunatic Asylum and the majority of those deemed to suffer a mental illness that were confined to the Hôpital général de Québec. Most of the anglophones sent to the Montreal Lunatic Asylum were of Irish origin.
