Abstract |
The years 1900 to 1914 saw a grand number of American and European touring theatrical companies stop to preform in Montreal. Journalist Bernard Keble Sandwell (1876-1954) wrote a drama column for the Montreal Herald during this period. The author focuses on Sandwell's critical views, which he frequently formulated, towards spectators (whom he described as "jaded businessmen") and censorship.
