Abstract |
Contains an account of the struggle between John Neilson, editor of The Quebec Gazette, and Charles Poulett Thomson, the British governor sent to Canada to arrange the Act of Union of Upper and Lower Canada following the Rebellions of 1837 and 1838. Neilson and others opposed to union raised petitions against it. However, the union was proclaimed in February 1841.
