Canadian Jewry: A Diaspora Community in Transition
|
Abstract |
An analysis of the Jewish community in Canada in the mid-1990s. The author addresses different demographic aspects of the community, challenges facing the community - such as an ongoing risk to Jewish continuity and financial setbacks - and evaluates the ability of Canada's Jewish community to adjust to internal changes occurring in the country. Among the internal changes is Montreal's declining Jewish community, in both size and influence, since the 1970s. The author describes "Quebec's Unique Jewish Community" and the impact of the province's separatist movement.
