Abstract
The Town of Mount Royal was founded in 1912 by the Canadian Northern Railway as a corporate Montreal suburb that was planned, designed and developed as a real estate venture to help offset the costs of building a railway tunnel under Mount Royal into the centre of Montreal. Frederick G. Todd (1876-1948) produced the urban design plan for this suburb to reflect the international "model city" or "garden city" movement.
