L'ossature de l'existence : suivi de «La rupture identitaire chez Richler et MacLennan : étude sur la relation amoureuse dans The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz et Two Solitudes»
|
Abstract |
In the second half of this thesis, the author offers an analysis of the love relationship between Montreal Francophones and Anglophones in Mordecai Richler's 1959 novel, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, and in Hugh MacLennan's 1945 novel, Two Solitudes. The author examines the way in which the power relations between the two cultural groups are represented in the novels, as well as how they are fueled by identity determinants and by a certain liberal philosophy, embodied inter alia in the "American dream" and the primacy of the individual over the collective.
